Welcome to the automated restaurant. The food industry is embracing robotics—not as a gimmick, but as a solution to labor shortages, consistency demands, and pandemic-era sanitation concerns. In commercial kitchens across the U.S., robot chefs, food printers, and automated dishwashing systems are transforming back-of-house operations into cybernetic workflows. “Automation is filling in critical gaps in speed, safety, and staffing,” says Linda Zhao, a senior analyst with the National Restaurant Association. “It’s not about replacing people—it’s about helping kitchens keep up.” Miso Robotics leads the pack with systems like Flippy and Sippy, robotic assistants that handle grilling and beverage pouring.
